Description
2009 album from the French Electro-Rockers. Born out of restlessness and a steady hunt for inspiration, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a career-defining album filled with the band's signature melding of synthetics and organics, sharp, danceable rhythms, infectious choruses with a considerable dose of aural panache and candy-colored pop sensibilities.

Summary: "Excellent implementation of a simple genre"
This type of music is very 'limited' in that the vocalist is not very prolific in his pure ability and the songs are meant to be simple and catchy. So while none of Phoenix's music should be classified as 'monumental' or 'earth-shattering' in my opinion, neither are any of their contemporaries. That being said, it's even more of a compliment that this 'album' is as good and unforgettable as it is. Their earlier albums had 60-80% really good stuff and this one has like 96.3% =)... They are improving on a very good start to their career and it's very impressive. I usually cannot maintain interest in music like this for very long but all their stuff has caught my interest and continues to keep it. 5 STARS for this excellent album!!!

Summary: "Abso-freakin LOVE this album!!"
Last year a friend of a friend had some extra tickets to see Phoenix in concert, whom I had never heard of, (this was shortly after their 1901 song appeared on the Cadillac commercial). Wow! I was in for a real treat. BEST concert I ever went to, they were so charismatic and energetic and entertaining, one of my best experiences in college so far. AMAZING performers, and it was all authentic, none of that lip syncing or pre-recorded music in the background. The crowd was going crazy, and I was dancing to these funky white boys that were making me feel all bubbly inside! I'm ashamed to say it took me about 6 months later to buy the CD, but I am SO glad I did. Obviously you won't get the same experience as going to the concert, actually seeing them creating their art and the crowd's energy, but it's pretty darn close. Rome especially sends shivers down my spine, something about it is so real and beautiful. This is one of those rare CD's where I enjoy ALL of the songs on it, no skipping tracks for me! Buy it! Buy it! You won't be disappointed.

Summary: "fun record!"
This is such a catchy, fun, and light record. Very lo-fi sounding. I'm not sure how long this album took to record, but it's like they got into the studio, rolled the tape, and played the songs. There is that kind of energy here. Pretty good songs that at catchy and the singer has an interesting voice.

Summary: "Best Album of the Year!"
This is Phoenix's best album and they just keep getting better. The catchy tunes of Listomania and 1901 are classic, but songs such as Lasso and Rome and not to be forgotten as well. Overall a very solid album!!! And they are even better live!

Summary: "A Little Light On Talent"
I've played this cd many times and my opinion remains the same. If they were trying to go for Art Rock/progressive rock they came up short. This is light pop/rock with lots of synthesizer. I wish new bands would learn how to play instruments again and also make great singing a priority. The first 4 tracks on this cd are very good. Fences is my favorite. You get the idea of their sound on the first 4 tracks but it's all downhill after that. The main shortcoming in this band is the limited talent of the singer. They seem to purposely use a turned down mike effect on the vocals. The singer uses the exact same delivery on every song on the album and doesn't seem to have any range or feeling or alternative ways of expressing his voice. I give it three stars because the first 4 songs are very good. I would need a new and improved batch of songs on the second half of the cd to give it a higher rating.
